It's that time agian. Hall of fame votes. There are some interesting names on this years ballot. Canseco, Caminiti, and Albert "Don't call me Joey" Belle lead the list of rejections. Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn are locks. But what about Mark McGwire? Big Mac was the most famous man in sports for many years during the prime of his carrer. His average season totals are staggering. I really don't think that many people will question that Mac has the numbers to get into the hall of fame, but many will attach the stieroid tag to him. Will the sports writers association prosecute Mac for allegations and not vote him in? Like I said, this ballot is a very interesting one indeed.

( 3.4 / 70 )I would like to preface this by saying that I am a proud supporter of the University of Alabama's football program. However I believe that Mal Moore and company have made a mistake. I can only hope that this decision does not hurt the program, like I think it might.
Alabama will now have a tough time finding a quality head coach, with previous major conference experience. Alabama went into this search with a haughty puffed up attitude that said, hey were a top tier program and will have no trouble attracting a top tier coach. Right? Wrong. The fact is the football program at the University of Alabama is in some trouble. Your elite program status is long gone, Auburn has beaten you 5 strait, and you have alumni, trustees, and an athletic director with unreasonable goals. In an era of parity where coaches can make their 2 mil pretty much anywhere, why would a Rich Rodriguez or a Bobby Petrino leave their schools to come to Alabama to face unreasonable scrutiny? As much as I hate on Dennis Franchone, this is the reason why he left, and he was justified in leaving. I just absolutely hate the manner in witch he left. Alabama is in quite a pickle without Mike Shula. Spurrier, Beamer, and a few other coaches have already come out and said that they are not interested in the job. Alabama would be very very lucky to land a coach like Paul Johnson of Navy. But to aim for anyone higher profile than him would be unrealistic, par for the course for most Alabama fans.
I love Crimson Tide football, but I am not optimistic right now. I really hope this situation works out for the best.
